    This undergraduate course explores the intersection of pediatric health, equity, and social determinants of health (SDOH), focusing on health disparities among children. While centered on pediatric health, the course also examines the impact of poverty, racial disparities, and structural factors that contribute to intergenerational economic challenges. Students will gain insight into how social, economic, and environmental factors influence children's health outcomes and well-being into adulthood. The course aims to equip students with the skills to critically analyze these determinants and advocate for health equity among children and adolescents. The course consists of two components: a weekly class lecture and 3 hours/week screening patients and families for social needs and connecting them to community resources at Primary Children's Hospital.

    Research credit by students arrangement with individual faculty/instructor(s) and the Pediatric Research Education Office. Studies will vary each semester, but will usually be in one of the following pediatric specialties: emergency medicine, hematology/oncology, critical care, medical genetics, immunology & rheumatology, inpatient medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, or cardiology. Prerequisites: "A-" or better in PED 5900.

    This course is for student leaders who will assist with classroom & clinical instruction and management under the supervision of a course instructor. Responsibilities will depend on the leadership role, but may include holding review sessions, training students in the clinical environment, facilitating discussions in online courses, leading team meetings, public relations and recruitment, and piloting new clinical research studies in the Emergency Department at Primary Children's Hospital (PCH). Prerequisites: 'A-' or better in PED 5900 AND Minor status in Pediatric Clinical Research

    This course provides students the opportunity to improve their skills in speaking and listening, to expand their cultural awareness, and to increase their self-confidence in the language. Designed to be taken with 1020, 2010, or 2020, but open to any student not enrolled at the 3000/4000 level. No written work. Credit/Non-Credit grading.

    The course focuses on developing advanced level of language and cultural proficiency in the Persian language enabling students to communicate in various target language contexts. The course aims at further developing students' language skills through a more advanced acquisition of vocabulary, grammar, and cultural knowledge that will reinforce the knowledge and understanding of diverse life experiences and facilitate fluent, appropriate, and culturally nuanced language interpretation and use. Students will read and analyze prose and poetry segments from both the modern and classical traditions of Persian literature. The class sessions will be in Persian, with occasional use of English for explanation of difficult points of grammar or analysis. Prerequisite: PERS 2020 or instructor's consent.
