For Jazz Composition and Jazz Performance Majors. Students must successfully complete Music 1150 and Music 1160 (Keyboard I & II) or demonstrate equivalent competence in order to enroll in Music 2181. Every jazz major needs strong jazz keyboard skills. These courses cover all of the harmonic & melodic jazz techniques a professional jazz musician needs to have "under their fingers". The successful completion of this yearlong course should enable any of its graduates to "comp" jazz standards or chord progressions in either a classroom or professional "gig" situation. Prerequisites: "C" or better in MUSC 1160 OR Department Consent.
